It would be nice to have some element of the sidebar be something that can get themed. Like if a group picks their primary color to be green, then that color somehow frames the sidebar or something.
I think that the bright colors on the icons for all the actions might be a little distracting. What about making the icons more simple and reducing the colors (perhaps just grey)? they could get more colorful when you mouse over.
i agree, i uploaded three grayed out variations. less distracting, but bland. we had also talked about the side bar being like a tray that could open or close.
added an itunes style sidebar, and an example with close categories. everything is either greyed out or the colors are subdued unless you roll over like “add to pending” above.
