What are the Best Buy Consumer Electronics Recycling Grants?

The Best Buy Consumer Electronics Recycling grants are designed to help provide more environmentally responsible electronics recycling opportunities for consumers across the country.

Who can apply for the Grants?

  • Best Buy grants are open to any group across the country planning to conduct an environmentally responsible consumer electronics recycling event.
  • Priority will be given to not-for-profit groups, but any organization is welcome to apply.
  • Grants are designed to defray costs for events already planned and allow groups to do more with their budgets. Grants range from $500 – $1500 per event, depending on the size and scope of the events.
  • Priority is given to electronics recycling events, but other types of events that include electronics recycling are considered.

How do I apply?

  • Applicants apply on line. Click on the link at the end of this page to apply or click here. Applicants can also apply by clicking on bestbuy.com, clicking on “Community Relations” from the home page and then clicking on “community relations – recycling.”
  • Applicants will be directed to a short on-line survey that serves as the grant application.
  • Applicants must do their best to complete all questions in order to be awarded a grant.
  • Because environmental responsibility is important to Best Buy, applicants must provide the name and contact information for their recycler and provide information on how the material will be handled. Applicants should include information on end markets for recycled material in order to be considered for a grant award.
  • Applicants holding multiple events or very large events can apply for several grants in one on-line application. For example, New York City holds five separate events around the city that draw hundreds of thousands of recyclers. Last year, New York City applied for sponsorship of the multiple events in one application and Best Buy awarded them a large grant amount that reflected the extensive reach of the city’s program.

How will the grants work?

  • Applicants will be notified by Best Buy if they have been awarded a grant. Notification should come between one to two months after an application is submitted.
  • Grants can be taken in cash, Best Buy Gift Cards or a combination of both. Applicants can specify what type of support they would like to receive in their application.
  • Grant recipients will need to submit marketing materials to Best Buy for review in advance of any events Best Buy is supporting.
  • Grants may be used for any activity associated with a recycling event.
  • Grant recipients will need to report the number of cars served and the total number of pounds of electronics collected for recycling at a recycling event.
