Agenda for Meetup - 02.04.2016

Our next fortnight meetup is on 02-APR-2016 (Saturday). During last meetup, I said not to bring new people who are completely new to the idea of meshnet because we cannot move on to next level of discussion or action and we would be struck at explaining the idea of mesh network to the new people again and again. What do you think we should do in our next meetup?

  1. Brainstorm ideas for infographics preparation
  2. (Draft a rough manifesto) Discuss the manifesto and update it ( This helps commons.thefnf.org/index.php/Freenet_Ma... )
  3. Level 0 Mesh : An individual providing an access point to neighbors.
    • How does he go about doing it? (Comprehensive tutorial and reading material on it)
    • How does he scale up (influence neighbors to put up another node)?
    • Technical details ( Security, Controlled Sharing, Services )
  4. Necessity of antenna use for better reception and transmission. Challenges in building a DIY antenna.

Sounds good. We can have print outs of the FNF manifesto and discuss the strategies.
Last meet, I saw a new TP-Link TL-WR841N was arrived at Opendrops to use for mesh purpose.
We can flash and setup a individual access point to neighbors, thus setting up the first mesh local.

1. We can also try kadnode.
2. Trying trackerless torrent file distribution (routers meshed and torrents on non-mesh nodes).

Any thoughts, others?

Do we have any free/open trackerless torrent applications for p2p networks? (Exclude IPFS)

I am seeing a lot of challenges here while trying to setup a network and thinking about a p2p file distribution.

1. How are going to address nodes? Static addressing / Dynamic addressing?
2. DNS like Kadnode, no matter if the addressing is static or dynamic is necessary.
3. For tracker based torrents, we can use applications like qBittorrent that comes with embedded tracker.
4. For trackerless DHT based torrents, we need to setup bootstrapping nodes. My understanding of DHT & bootstrapping is poor, so I am not sure how to go about this.

I think, the discussion about applications deserves it’s own thread and let’s leave this thread to stick with discussion related to the agenda for this weekends meetup.

1. We need to setup a large test bed to identify the issues we might face with addressing.
2. I haven’t looked into Kadnode.
3. I will read up on the trackerless torrent applications, and will give brief overview on it.
4. We should discuss the timeline of installing the mesh clusters.
5. Aside from info-graphics, what else we can use?

Additional note

Behind every application we choose to integrate to our stack, there should be a motivation and scope. Example : Hosting a discussion platform, should be motivated by Freedom to express oneself.
