Agenda : Meshnet Meetup #3

List of topics for discussion during Community WiFi Initiative (Meshnet) Meetup 3

Now that we have enough volunteers interested in the project, we need to move on to the next stage, which involves the following broad goals,

  1. Strategy for reaching out to the general populace
  2. Crafting resources and tutorials, for interested people to engage independently
  3. Addressing basic network issues like address allocation, security and other problems specific to P2P/decentralized networks
  4. Discuss the list of applications that any meshlocal should support

Strategy for reaching out to the general populace

  1. Brainstorm ideas for infographics preparation
  2. Animations/GIFs for common people to grasp the idea of meshnet architecture
  3. Drafting a manifesto based on the FNF manifesto commons.thefnf.org/index.php/Freenet_Ma... , to reach a wider audience

Crafting resources and tutorials, for interested people to engage independently

  1. How does an individual set up a mesh local (A single access point) in his neighborhood, independently?
  2. How does he scale up? In other words, how does he influence his neighbors to put up another node?
  3. Comprehensive tutorials, reading materials and Case Studies of existing meshnets (like Freifunk)

Addressing basic network issues like address allocation, security and other problems specific to P2P/decentralized networks

  1. Challenges in decentralized DNS and address allocation
  2. Try out Kadnode : P2P DNS resolution daemon
  3. Necessity of antenna use for better reception, transmission and better quality of connection; Challenges in building a DIY antenna

Discuss the list of applications that any meshlocal should support

  1. For trackerless DHT based torrents, we need to setup bootstrapping nodes
  2. Need for better understanding of DHT and how trackerless torrents use it
  3. Try out social networking applications

Discussion on an updated comprehensive Action Plan from Creating Awareness among People to Alternate Infrastructure for Internet

Apart from these, we are setting up our first mesh local at Opendrops!

This agenda looks great. Looking forward.
