SysCP

This help section is for people who host websites with riseup.net. There is not much here yet, but more will be coming.

Getting started

changing your password

When your hosting request is first approved, you should receive an email with a username and password. Because the password is sent to you in cleartext over email, we suggest changing it right away.

  1. login at raven.riseup.net
  2. click the link Change password
  3. fill out the fields and hit Change password to confirm.

This will change your SysCP password. SysCP is the program at raven.riseup.net which you can use to manage your site. Now you also need to change the password for the SFTP account:

  1. if you are not already logged in, login at raven.riseup.net
  2. click the link Accounts under the heading FTP
  3. click on the Change password link next to your username (not the change password link which is on the top left of the page).
  4. fill in the form and click Change password to confirm.

Why do you have to change the password twice? Because the SysCP accounts and SFTP accounts are separate. Each SysCP account also has one SFTP account. Initially, a SFTP account is created with the same login and password as the SysCP account, but if you change the password of one this will not effect the password of the other. (You will see the option to add multiple FTP accounts in syscp: ignore these, they don’t work with SFTP).

upload files

You can use a SFTP client and the ftp login to transfer files to your site. See the SFTP page for details.
