Descripción
El poder en narrativas: la creación de contenidos para la radio comunitaria es un intercambio de conocimientos. Este taller reunirá a productores de medios para tener conversaciones sobre cómo pueden utilizar la narrativa para construir la comunidad. Centrado en los aspectos básicos de la narración, este taller será bueno para aquellos que buscan llevar la narración a su estación de radio comunitaria. Aunque esto talleres se centra en la creación de contenidos para la radio, todos que usan medios en su trabajo invitados a contribuir a la discusión. Por favor, estar listo a contar su historias.

Objetivos

• Reflexionar sobre el función de las narraciones y cuentos en la creación de medios de comunicación
• Comprender los componentes de narrativa
• Valorar el proceso de la narrativa en la creación de comunidades

  (10 mins) Parte 1: ¿Por qué es importante usar narracion en el creacion de los medios?
  Propósito:
• Para empezar a pensar en historias como una manera de cautivar al público
• Para entender las historias como una manera de conectar la comunidad
• Para empezar el proceso de contar historias
  Ejercicio:
• Coloque imágenes alrededor de la habitación
• Pida a los participantes de pie junto a la imagen que les interesan más
• En los grupos los han discusión por qué eligen las fotos
  o pensar por qué elige esa foto
  o lo que es interesante al respecto?
  o ¿cómo te identificas con él?
  o ¿qué significa la imagen significa para usted?
• Seleccione en la persona de cada grupo para
  o por qué se elige la imagen
  o contar una historia sobre la imagen
  (20 minutos) Parte 2: Elementos de una historia
  propósito:
• Identificar los elementos de una historia convincente

• Discutir en pequeños grupos:
  o ¿qué te parece la historia?
  o ¿que te gusta de la historia?
• Los elementos de una historia:
  o caracteres

  (20 Minutos) Parte 3: Contar su historia
  propósito:
• Para contar su historia a otra persona
  ejercicio:
• Piense en un momento en que alguien dijo su historia o un historia de su comunidad para usted.
• En pequeños grupos, compartir esta historia con su grupo.
• Junto, decidir qué historia le gustaría oír en el radio (o una pieza multimedia).
• Con ese historia hagan un plan. Piensan de:
  o ¿Cual personajes deben estar en la historia?
  o ¿Qué voces son importantes para incluir?
  o ¿Cuál es el conflicto?
  o ¿cuál es la resolución?
  o ¿ Que sonido haría que para ser esta historia mas interesante?
• Cada crupo compartir la historia seleccionado.

Title: Power in Narratives: Content Creation for Community Radio
Description
Power in Narratives: Content Creation for Community Radio is a skills sharing exchange. This workshop will bring together Spanish-speaking media makers to have conversations about how they can use narrative to build community and power. Focused on the basics of storytelling, this workshop will be good for those who are looking to bring narrative to their community radio station or community organizing. While this workshops focuses on content creation for Spanish-language radio, all media makers are welcomed to contribute to the discussion. Please be ready to tell stories.

Goals

• To think about the role of narratives and story telling in media creation

• To value the process of narrative in community building

  (10 mins) Part 1: Why storytelling is important to media creation
  purpose:

• to begin to think of stories as a way to engage an audience
• to understand stories as a way to connect community
• to begin the process of story telling
  exercise:
• Place pictures around the room
• Ask participants to stand next to the picture that interest them the most
• In groups have them discus why they choose those pictures
  o think about why you choose that picture
  o what is interesting about it?
  o how do you identify with it?
  o what does the picture mean to you?
• Select on person from each group to
  o say why they choose the picture
  o tell a story about the picture
  (20 mins) Part 2: Elements of a story
  purpose:
• to identify the elements of a compelling story
  exercise:
• break into small groups
• facilitators will play radio piece
• in small groups discuss:
  o what did you think about the story?
  o what do you like about the story?
• Elements of a story:
  o Character
  o Conflict
  o Climax
  o Resolution
  (20 Mins) Part 3: Telling your story
  purpose:
• to tell your story to someone else
  exercise:
• Think of a time when your story or your community story was told for you.
• In small groups, share that story with your group.
• Together decide which story you would like to hear as a radio (or multimedia piece). Plan that piece:
  o what characters should be in the story?
  o what voices are important to include?
  o what is the conflict?
  o what’s the resolution?
  o what sound would make this story compelling?

Presenter Bio
Felix Ortiz is a Community News Production Institute Reporter with People’s Production House in New York City. Originally from Mexico City, Felix now works in New York in construction ,but his true love is in photography and graffiti. As a community reporter, Felix has worked to bringing the voices of the region’s day laborers to the airwaves. As an organizer, Felix works to bring equality and justice for New York’s latin@ day laborers and street vendors with Jornaledos Unidos.

Zoilo Blas is a Community News Production Institute Reporter with People’s Production House in New York City. As member of Se Hace Camino/Make the Road, New York, Zoilo works on social justice issues that affect latin@ workers in New York City.

Carlos Pareja is a media activist, educator and filmmaker who has worked with both adult and youth populations teaching video production and media literacy and organizing around media access. Currently, Carlos is the Training and Policy Director for People’s Production House. In the past, Carlos has worked with Paper Tiger Television, the Educational Video Center, Indymedia and Brooklyn Community Access Television. He is a firm believer that access to media creation tools, knowledge of media production technique and open distribution platforms are key to a functional democracy.
