What is this group about ?¶

Ummm… nothing special. There are a lot of interesting projects built on maps, wouldn’t it be great to start leveraging on such projects. Collecting such projects and using them for individual or community projects will be way more interesting. Furthermore it is almost equivalent to sketching and painting in a canvas. Have fun.

Who are we ?¶

We are all a bunch of folks who are interested in learning, sharing and making maps, designing carto, exploring GIS, and its transdisciplinary reverberations to individual, community and social impact if possible in some ways. Other than that we would like to play with maps with which the past generations have to work out their ass off to create meticulous and accurate maps.

What maps are ? actually¶

Maps are like the comic of the earth geography. Whatever shown in maps are not true as well as sometimes factual. Most of the people think that whatever they learned in their school geography sessions and classes are real and more over true. Which is most of us have assumed so honestly !.

But with experience, internet and talking to other people related with geography one will get a critical thinking about Geography. It is one of those beautiful transdisciplinary subjects that spans many other transdisciplinary subjects in itself. Being said that it is not hierarchical. For instance it touches arts and science of geology, palentology, ecosystems, spectroscopy, history, evolution of species, weather and climatic studies, communication, transportation, logistics, chemistry, material science, agriculture and food, hydrology, etc.

Nobody will know the truth unless one got the capital to make a rocket industry, create a rocket shuttle & supplies, and float in space to see what is really happening out there by grabbing a seat in space and actually seeeee what this Earth looks like and infers how it functions from the spatial changes !

However fortunately most of us are all not vested with ability to purchase a rocket shuttle or even a reservation seat to travel to some x,y,z point in space. That’s where peoples, instruments and satellites come into picture.

1. We fund institutions to make instruments, load them up in satellites and take bunch of spectral photos, and relay it back to earth for our usage. The centralized way.
2. On the other hand, we also use our knowledge to collaboratively build the maps. The collborative way.

Now again we use both as sources and infuse our creativity and innovation to build unimaginable applications and tools.
